With just a few days until the onslaught of New York fashion week, most designers are frenzied. Milly’s Michelle Smith is not. Maybe that’s what having a successful-and-growing label that’s a big seller without being a flavor of the month will do for you. Whatever it is, Smith is expanding her empire even further: The designer dropped by Bergdorf Goodman last night to introduce her new bags, which were first glimpsed on her Spring runway (alongside her new jewelry range) and are hitting stores now. Co-hosted by the Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s Associates Council Luncheon chairs (Smith has been a supporter for over five years), the turnout was Upper East Side proper. Guess they liked what they saw; word is, the bags sold like hot cakes. And why not? They’re priced under $500.
